SR Architects Ltd. was commissioned by RUH NHS Trust Bath starting in early 2013 to fast-track design, tender and administer construction of a rolling programme of ward refurbishments. To date, three areas have been completed including: the hospital’s Maternity Department and Mary Wards, Parry Ward, and a Winter Beds procurement programme.
Materinity Department and Mary Ward: Completed in late 2013. All the delivery suites and associated ensuite facilities, as well as a new birthing pool room, were upgraded to create calming hotel-like bedroom environments whilst maintaining necessary clinical services. On Mary Ward - the post-natal bed ward for the Department, all the shower and WC accommodations were updated to new standards.
Parry Ward: Completed all within a 3-month period in mid-2014, this 28-bed general medicine inpatient ward divided into four 6-bed bays and four single bedrooms with associated WC and shower facilities was refurbished to include new bedhead trunking and all other internal finishes as well thermal fabric improvements, all within a live working environment in wards to either side of this one.
2014 Winter Beds Programme: completed in late 2014. This phase was a logistically complex series of room conversions to enable the introduction of 10 additional bed areas to help meet increased wintertime bed demand. Whilst working in live environments, offices, consulting and treatment rooms and associated services in one department were relocated/reinstalled to allow a 6-bed bay to come back online, having been divided into treatment space in the past. A further 4 offices on 2 other wards were converted to single bedrooms with ensuites.
