SR Architects Ltd. was commissioned in 2023 to design the insertion of natal care assessment units into the existing Princess Ann Wing, the hospital’s primary maternity care centre.  Working with the centres’ midwifery specialists, spaces added would improve care efficiencies for seeing patients, both with or without appointments, to address any care concerns they might have before or after birth delivery.

The project had 2 primary design challenges: fitting two assessment areas into the already tightly programmed building and designing for the construction to work around the 24-hour operation of the main birthing centre and maternity recovery wards. The project was delivered over a phased 6-month period where one area had to be completed before the next area could begin.
